How to unzip and install RUSSELL'S "P11" ANIMATION MACHINE Applications

How to unzip and install programs written with Russell's "P11" Animation Machine

 FAQ's FTP Downloadable Software!

All our newest programs are now shipped in slightly larger, but far simpler, two-step installation bundles. After downloading them, just: 1) execute any unzipping program to decompress them. 2) Run our SETUP.BAT procedure for final installation. YOUR_HRT.ZIP and GENIDISK.ZIP work this way. (Note: Windows (tm) users will still probably want to manually set up a PIF or shortcut to automate activation of the programs and provide the proper memory configuration for your machine.)

For other software from THE ANIMATED SOFTWARE COMPANY:
Other software written using RUSSELL'S "P11" ANIMATION MACHINE can be easily unzipped with PKUNZIP from PKWARE. Use the -d and \ parameters, like this:
PKUNZIP.EXE P11STUFF.ZIP \ -D

The -d tells PKUNZIP to recreate the directory structure which existed when the program was originally zipped here at our world famous Research & Development laboratories. This will create a directory tree starting at the root level with \P11 and followed by several additional directories, such as \P11\SYSTEM\ICONS, \P11\FONTS, etc..

The backslash tells PKUNZIP to recreate the original directory structure (see above) at the root level. You could create it elsewhere but you would have to later use the DOS SUBST command to make DOS tell P11 it "thinks" the files are within the \P11 structure, even though they aren't. Got that? Didn't think so. What it all means, is that the directory \P11 should exist when you're done, or you'll have to get complicated.

You can do this on any hard drive, so the form of unzip command can also be:
PKUNZIP.EXE P11STUFF.ZIP D:\ -D
This example would put the files in the \P11 directory on the D: drive.

Once you have unzipped a program, then go to the drive you placed the files on (usually c: or d:) and use the DOS command CD (Change Directory) to go to the \P11 directory, like this:
CD \P11
From the \P11 directory you should find a file called RUN.BAT. Type:
RUN
to run the batch file that runs nearly all the programs. Occasionally, a program will not be in the batch file list. In those cases, you can find the directory for the program you installed within the \P11 directory by typing:
DIR \P11\????????
and press ENTER at the DOS prompt. There should be a batch file in the directory. Run that batch file.

Note: You can also simply decompress most P11 applications from THE ANIMATED SOFTWARE COMPANY into any directory, and the batch file that starts the program will look for P11RUN.EXE in the \P11 directory and in the current directory. However, if you use the parameters given above to recreate our directory structure, you will be able to use the RUN.BAT master batch file most of the time.
