Re: Your letter to me of November 9th, 2001

Dear Dr. Blair:

Attached are two statements which I understand have already been sent to you.

Below these letters is a list of nearly 200 books about nuclear weapons and nuclear power, published over the past half century by government, the nuclear industry, activist organizations pro and con, other non-governmental organizations (such as the Boy Scouts of America), and private individuals such as investigative journalists, college professors, downwinders, politicians, housewives, etc..

If you've used the information in any of the books listed to prove your point about "scores, maybe hundreds" of dead from a meltdown, or for any other relevant facts, you can just give me the title and the page numbers, because all these books (and many more) are in my own personal collection.

In reviewing all the available literature that I have been able to collect, I find two inescapable truths:  First, the effects of low level radiation have been ignored or downplayed by governments around the world, and by the nuclear industry.  Second, the benefits of nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants have both been greatly exaggerated at best, or even simply invented out of thin air, hot air, or both.

Sincerely,

Russell Hoffman
Carlsbad, CA

Dr. Blair;

What is your estimate of how many would die and how many would be injured if
a 20 kiloton bomb were to be detonated in, say, Yonkers, NY.

Would this be more or less than the number killed if a fully loaded 767 were
to crash into Indian Point 3?

Since you won't accept Mr. Hoffman's Numbers how about generating numbers of
your own. As a knowledgeable scientist in this technical field I believe you
should become involved in the debate.

My own, very rough estimates, are that more than half of the population of
Manhattan would be wiped out in either scenario.

These estimates are of necessity approximate because I don't have the latest
high power computer capability in my home. I have a scientific hand
calculator, kind of simple I know but we are only looking at ballpark numbers
here. If it's not 4 million how about one million deaths and injuries. This
at least gives us a point of discussion.

Perhaps you are one of those scientists who don't like to take a stand for
fear of upsetting the morons in the DOE.

Dr. Blair;

I know what radiation can do to the born and the unborn.  I am a Hanford Downwinder.  I was 14 when my family and I moved by the Hanford Nuclear Plant in 1947.

In the year 1985 I was informed that my grandchildren's children were likely to be deformed and/or mentally retarded from the radiation I had received.  Radiation is known to change DNA and this is why the Genomic Project was started by the DOE (Department of Energy).  The Genomic Project was started because of the mutations from the nuclear bombs that dropped on Japan.

I decided to learn about radiation, nuclear plants, weapons industry, nuclear waste, wars and pollution.  Also fallout from wars going on in other countries and nuclear accidents in this country.

Saying "No Harm Done" is not longer the answer.  People need to know the truth.  Doctor's know very little about the problems of receiving radiation or the diseases that are caused by it.

People that do survive suffer.  Drugging the American people is no longer the answer.  It is a shame that we are killing the young children by mothers having miscarriages and not being able to carry a child to full term.  Infertility is a common problem in the United States.  The Medical Association is making money of the flesh of the American People.  Good for the Economy but bad for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Nuclear Plants need to be shut down and other forms of power need to be put up starting today.  With 103 nuclear plants in the United States, nuclear waste and nuclear weapons the United States is sure to have a domino (effect ).

Hoping you can get your ducks in a row and start acting for the Security of the United States.

Sincerely;
Hanford Downwind
Arlene Stefan a concerned mother and grandmother.

PS Please read the book: "No Immediate Danger" by Dr. Rosalie Bertell.  I think she has something to teach you about radiation and it's mishandling though out the years.

You can get a copy of her book or read it on line at:  http://www.ratical.org/radiation/overviews.html#NRBE

If I can learn about radiation -- you can too.
