Subject: Why are you trying to kill us
It's as if the Cassini potential catastrophy hasn't shaken anyone a bit. Doesn't anyone care about themselves and their wellbeing anymore, their families wellbeing. Doesn't anybody want to live a long and healthy life. It seem to me all people care about these days is dying from cancer, and watching the whole world falling to pieces even though it could have been prevented if everyone wasn't so greedy and ignorant. Are you all blind! Can't you see that we're all going to die unless drastic meassres are taken to prevent unnesessary catastrophies. Why must the whole world(and not just humans) suffer and die for the un-thought-out mistakes YOU force upon us. What is it all in the name of, Space exploration? Or so we don't go without electricity for one New Years? Tell me, why isn't anyone WAKING UP to the potential threat and disaster that is upon us. In less then 2 weeks we have to face the Cassini flyby. The world will survive a little longer without further information about Saturn, it's not worth the risk. Believe me, people will be alot happier being alive and healthy than looking at the new marvolous pictures of Saturn. NO BODY CARES! Y2K, Why are you doing this to us, why don't you close down all the nuclear reactors? Hasn't science taught you anything about safe production of electricity, and all functions which a reactor is used for? Isn't anybody worried about incorrect information targetting a war or unnesessary missiles and nuclear weapons to be hurtled at eachother. I urge everyone to stop and think of what the grave outcomes might actually be.
Do something now, while there is still time left to correct the problems or else armageddon has befallen us, and we can kiss this world goodbey.
Sincerely,
Elena Baltzis, 19

Dear Elena,
THANK YOU for a wonderful letter which I will lead off today's newsletter with (#163). You have made my day (and it's only 7:15 am!). If you need a "media contact list" to use to send out this or other things you write, you might want to take the one I posted in my last newsletter (#162) which is available online at my web site. (Of course, there would be no reason to send this particular item out to them, since I'm about to do that myself in the next few hours.)
Again, my sincerest thanks for expressing so concisely and so well, what needs to be said. I'm generally way too wordy and you've summed up everything I've been trying to say at my whole web site in a couple of superb paragraphs. You humble me far more than the learned Dr.s and double-speaking spokespersons for NASA's madness ever could.
Very Truly Yours,
Russell D. Hoffman
Stop Cassini newsletter editor
P.S. Personally, I use the interactive mode of my spellchecker, but I'll note that it doesn't accept "spellchecker" as a valid term (nor "online", for that matter. I think your note at the top makes the letter more endearing with the minor spelling errors than without. It shows that you typed it and sent it, thus proving the depth and clarity of your feeling. So I'm leaving it the way it is. After all, it can't be worse than murder!

Subject: Cassini's Earth fly-by
Attention: Dr. Jackie Alan Giuliano, Ph.D.
Dear Dr. Giuliano,
I refer to the correspondences between you and Russell D. Hoffman published in the STOP CASSINI NEWSLETTER.
Please allow me a few questions:
1. It is my understanding, that you are a professor of environmental studies. Where do you teach?
2. It is my understanding, that Karl Grossman is professor of journalism at the University of new York / College at Old Westbury where he teaches Investigative Reporting and Environmental Journalism.
Dr. Giuliano,
a) did you read Karl Grossman's book "The Wrong Stuff, The Space Program's Nuclear Threat To our Planet"?
b) did you see Karl Grossman's awards winning film documentaries NUKES IN SPACE I and NUKES IN SPACE II?
c) if you did both, what is your opinion? Do you support Karl Grossman's findings and statements, which mostly are accompanied with excellent references.
3. Do you know about the July 1997 Safety Evaluation Report (SER), issued by a Nuclear Safety Review Panel consisting of a representative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Defense, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and NASA? The SER noted major discrepancies in NASA's own Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)! Are you aware about these?
4. The Cassini Redirection Coalition (CRC) has coordinated the EMERGENCY RESOLUTION (FEBRUARY 24/99/CRC), also available in the Internet :
http://www.nonviolence.org/noflyby/alerts/petun.htm
http://www.animatedsoftware.com/cassini/petition/cass1999.htm
The Resolution contains the basic facts speaking against the Cassini mission. Please inform yourself about these fact, and please inform me which one of the facts in the Resolution are not correct.
5. Since the most important facts about plutonium were not easily available and understandable for the general public, with the help of others the Cassini Redirection Coalition (CRC) has co-ordinated the article "Facts about Cassini's Plutonium" also available at
http://www.animatedsoftware.com/cassini/nltrs/nltr0139.htm
Please inform which one of the statements contained in this article are wrong.
6. Please understand, the concerned groups and individuals worldwide are not against a mission to Saturn, they are only against this deadly plutonium! I would not mind a nuclear-free Cassini, that -in case of an inadvertent re-entry- would possibly crash into my house! I would take that risk, so would my family and we all would support nuclear free missions or any missions with no long lasting threat to the environment! Cassini's re-entry path is predictable and the possible affected people can be warned not to stay in the house but move to a safer place just for that evening. I would take that risk, as much as I would take the risk being hit by a another car while driving on a highway (Mind you, by driving defensively, you CAN even on the road avoid a lot of accidents!). But I DO MIND nuclear fuel on board Cassini with the devastating consequences to Earth for thousands of years!
You must know about Dr. John W. Gofman, who wrote me a letter, which also contained his Letter Of Concern, also available in:
http://www.ratical.org/radiation/CNR/LetterOfConcern.html
As far as I know, Dr. Gofman is considered THE leading authority on the effects of radiation.
My question, what is your opinion about Dr. Gofman's Letter Of Concern and what are your conclusions from this letter with regards of the Cassini mission?
7. What is your explanation why NASA did not use solar technique -instead of nuclear fuel as energy source- in the Galileo space ship, although NASA knew that solar would have worked (1981 NASA-funded JPL report)?
8. For the sake of Earth and the live inhabitants, could a safe (nuclear free) deep space mission to Saturn not have waited a few more years until a safe nuclear free energy source would have been available, as is now and as was already announced years before the Cassini launch by the European Space Agency?
9. NASA's original mission statement, as quoted from page A-4 of NASA Pocket Statistics, 1995 edition, "Declaration Of Policy And Purpose" reads: "Sec. 102 (a) The Congress hereby declares that it is the policy of the United States that activities in space should be devoted to peaceful purposes that benefit all of mankind.
The Cassini nuclear fueled mission does not fit into NASA's original mission statement! What do you think? To save billions of dollars on the possible expense to contaminate 6 billion people plus all the other living species on Earth?
Looking forward for your honest response and looking forward for an continuing open dialogue,
Yours truly,
Hans Karow

Distant Pioneer Needs New Home
10 Hours Out - The first interstellar explorer, Pioneer 10, is alive and well as its plutonium battery continues to feed a trickle of energy from its decaying core.
Pioneer 10 was launched from Earth on March 2, 1972, and became the first probe to flyby Jupiter in late 1973, and then became the first spacecraft to leave the Sol system.
On July 10, Pioneer 10 was commanded to make a precession maneuver that will keep its antenna aligned towards Earth until at least September, when it will start to drift aimlessly forever, unless re-funded.

Hi!
Mr. Mansfield ought to subscribe to the SC newsletters if he wants to be timely about anything. The timing of this "press release" is outrageous. In 1972, 8 years after SNAP-9A's intentional dispersal (after reentering against NASA's "one in ten million" odds of accidental reentry) of 2.1 pounds of Plutonium 238, NASA was taking risks that, in 1999, any fool can see were criminally insane.
NASA's mad scientist experiment-gone-wrong back then (1964) is still in the environment, still measurable, still (for example) actually measurable in most male's testicles, one place where it collects (no wonder the guys at NASA -- oh, never mind). SNAP-9A is UNDOUBTEDLY still killing people TODAY. Indeed, SNAP-9A might already have killed millions of people, and caused millions of deformities as well. Maybe only thousands, but I seriously doubt it could be less than that. Billions of lethal doses of plutonium were vaporized into 10 micron particles on average (the ideal size for permanently lodging in a person's lung) and spread at a high altitude so that individual deaths could not be identified and attributed directly to NASA. The horror of what that implied caused NASA to start building a weak containment system which by 1972 was carrying 80,000 Curies at a time, compared to SNAP-9A's 17,000 Curies of plutonium.
One note of correction to the "press release" given above: It's not a battery at all! The guy doesn't even know what he's writing about! It's a thermoelectric generator, which (as you know) uses the heat from the radioactive substance in conjunction with rows and rows of thermocouples. The "trickle" is because the thermocouples lose their efficiency rapidly as temperature drops, but the radioactivity hasn't really declined all that much. Had Pioneer 10 reentered Earth's atmosphere at the time of its launch, its 80,000 Curies of plutonium would only have lost about 15% of the radioactivity by now. It would still be killing today, as well.
Pioneer was an outrage, and it's current trickle of information has not proven the reasonableness of NASA's nutty nuclear policies.
Maybe I should do a press release about THAT!
Thanks as always for sending me these things!

One of our readers found this frightening document on the web recently and forwarded the URL to us. Its title is DOE Predecessor Agencies and Human Radiation Experiments: A Headquarters Overview:
These sites are being very stubborn about letting you in. But
persistence does pay off. I typed in Plutonium and got tons of info.
The article I send you is way down at the bottom after the search brings
you to the link. I have printed and printed, just in case they take it
down. I was very surprised, to say the least to find this much on the
net. As you can see, this is on a medical site no less.

The attached site is where I found all the information. It is one of those sites, that will not "hold" when I forward a link, so here is how I got there. Scroll down to the list of medical databases and click on "Endocrinology". Scroll down to "Human Subects Research" and "Guidelines & Databases" That will give you a lot of links to different databases. I will follow up with the link that I found the most interesting. It will follow now...........

The hour is late: To stop Cassini and other future mad-scientist launches, please redistribute this newsletter to everyone you know! Chances are they have never heard of Cassini, never visited our STOP CASSINI web site, never heard of or considered the effects of the Electromagnetic Pulse that will undoubtedly start a nuclear war if one occurs at all. And chances are good they would not even be able to tell you who played Dr. Strangelove (and two other roles) in the movie of the same name! There is a crisis in education in America and around the world -- you can take it seriously or you can let it kill you. But if we all join together and oppose this impending global destruction, maybe, just maybe, we can convince the powers that be to put down their genocidal toys.
To learn about the absurd excuses NASA used to launch Cassini in 1997, ask them for the 1995 Environmental Impact Statement for the Cassini Mission, and all subsequent documentation. At the same time, be sure to ask them for ANY and ALL documentation available on future uses of plutonium in space, including MILITARY, CIVILIAN, or "OTHER" (just in case they make a new category somehow!). To get this information, contact:

NASA states that they do not have the resources anymore to answer most emails they receive. Liars! They have $13 billion dollars to play with. They can answer the public's questions!
